Commodore 64
"I adore my 64, my Commodore 64..."
This is it, the computer of computers. I may as well say nothing, for all
which I must necessarily leave out will only serve to slight the greatness of
this machine. These were the days when computers had hearts, souls, and even a
1MHz 6510 CPU! It was the venerable C64 that first nurtured my interest in
computers, on which I first started writing programs in BASIC, and then
assembly language. The machine you see here is my first C64 (of which I have
two now). It was slightly modified by the addition of a reset switch on the
back left face, next to the user port. In the user port is a Commodore 1670
1200bps modem, my first (which still works). The 1541 you see was not my
first (which died). It has benefitted from several additions, such as a pair
of switches on the front next to the coloured stripes which select the device
number (from 8 to 11). Another switch on the right of the front face allows
the write-protect sensor to be deactivated, bypassed, or set to function
normally. The edge connector attached to a ribbon cable which you can see on
top of the drive is the hardware portion of a 21 Second Backup system.
Sitting behind all of this is a 1702 colour monitor. I also currently have
three other 1541's lying about as spares, and the amount of C64 related
hardware which I own is likely to increase with time.
