Commodore Amiga 2000
The platform of choice for fanatics and fringe lunatics, or just about anyone
looking to get in on a crusade. The hardware is old and slow these days, but
is still capable of commanding some respect, at least from anyone with any
sort of historical sense of computer technology. The Amiga was a natural step
up for me from the Commodore 64, as it was for many others who had owned a '64.
I chose the 2000 for it's upgradability (at the price paid for this machine,
I figured it had better be upgradable). A Vector accelerator card did
eventually find it's way into this machine, but only near the end of it's
useful life for me. As it currently stands, the Vector is seated inside of it,
with a 25MHz 68030 CPU and 68882 FPU. There is also a 120MB Maxtor SCSI hard
drive on the Vector card, and 4MB of 32-bit RAM (making for a total of five).
The system is running AmigaDOS 2.1 on a 2.04 Kickstart. The enhanced chipset
was intalled, but I've still only got 512K of chip RAM because I don't know
which trace to cut on the motherboard to up it to 1MB (and I'm naturally not
going to experiment). There is also a 1084S stereo RGB monitor and an
external 1020 5.25" floppy drive, which at the time I got for a good price.
